PROJECT: Northern Rivers Retreat

Designing this fully off-grid, sustainable home was a new type of challenge. All walls and ceilings are crafted from recycled cool room storage panels, precisely fitted to the 1200mm panel widths. These walls are also 150mm thick, offering excellent insulation throughout the home.

The house’s placement on the site was carefully planned, featuring large sunny windows and glass doors to maximize winter sun, which warms the polished concrete floors.

The owners desired a home that feels spacious, open, and closely connected to nature. To achieve this, we designed the master shower to be located outdoors. The family loves spending time at the beach and exploring the large property, often getting muddy, so an outdoor shower was essential. We created this space with breeze blocks for privacy, positioned just outside the large sliding door of the master bedroom. This design was inspired by their travels to tropical destinations like Fiji and Thailand, where the distinction between indoor and outdoor living is seamlessly merged.
